Economics loves simple stories. One person is rational, another social, a third sustainable. But real people do not fit into neat boxes \u2013 they are variations. That is why we need a new guiding image: Homo Varius. It is the human model of BEconomics \u2013 realistic, multidimensional, open.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What we can learn from older models<\/h2>\n

The existing human models in economic theory provide puzzle pieces, but not a complete picture:
\nHomo Oeconomicus<\/strong> \u2013 Mr. Self-Interest. Rational, calculating, self-serving. Not a realistic depiction, but rather an ideological tool. Yet: when people sense existential fear, they do act more selfishly.
\nHomo Sustensis<\/strong> \u2013 the idealistic meaning-seeker. Wants sustainability, fairness, purpose instead of profit.
\nHomo Reciprocans<\/strong> \u2013 the fair player. Acts cooperatively when others join in. Supports community as long as it works.
\nHomo Relationalis<\/strong> \u2013 the relationship-driven human. Shaped by culture, environment, and economic system. The system forms values.<\/p>\n

What defines the Homo Varius<\/h2>\n

Human beings are rational \u2013 but also emotional, instinctive, and sometimes contradictory. They can act wisely when they are not pushed into panic. And they can be supportive when they feel trust.<\/p>\n

The idea of Homo Varius recognizes: We are malleable. We respond to the conditions that we ourselves create.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He is not a saint and not a selfish machine \u2013 but a balance of both. He seeks security and purpose. He wants fairness \u2013 and then acts fairly himself.<\/p>\n

\u2013 A bit egoistic and materialistic \u2013 especially under existential pressure.
\n\u2013 Willing to cooperate when fairness and reliability are present.

\n\u2013 Guided by reason, but also by feelings and impulses.
\n\u2013 Critical when injustice becomes systemic.
\n\u2013 Capable of development \u2013 from lone fighter to team player.<\/p>\n

Change the system, not the human<\/h2>\n

Homo Varius shows that humans are not fixed beings but a result of their conditions.
\nWhen the economic system spreads fear, egoism and withdrawal arise.<\/p>\n

When it creates security and fairness, cooperation grows.
\nTherefore: We do not need to \u201cchange\u201d humans, but the systems that shape them.<\/strong><\/p>\n
